Poor Haylie...

So we went to Haylie's one year well check today... When we arrived and parked the van, Haylie was so excited to get out of her car seat, little did she know where she was having to go! Poor girl was so scared this time. She was clinging to me for dear life. We went in to the nurses room to get her weight/height, blood pressure, and head measurement and she just started bawling!! They had one of those thermometers that they just have to touch her head with, and she started screaming when they did that! Then trying to measure her head with the tape measure.....she just wanted them to leave her alone. We did finally get her measurements: Head: 18 inches, Height: 30 inches, Weight: 24 lbs 3.3 oz. She is in the 95% in all of these, head, height, AND, weight!!! Needless to say she's a big girl! :)

After the measurements we went to the room to see the doctor. As soon as he came in Haylie started clinging to me and looking at me with her "concerned" face! He listened to her heart over her screams, looked at her feet and hands even though she was flailing them, and wasn't even able to see her teeth, we had to tell him she had 6! He said everything looked and sounded great, and that she was growing at a very "healthy" rate!! He then proceeded to tell us that she had to have 6 shots today! Yes, 6 shots all in one day!!! We asked what they were (all shots she needs) and he sent us to the nurse to give her the shots!

Other mothers always told me, "The first time my baby had to get shots, I cried." Let me tell you, it just gets worse and worse each time. The first time she got a shot, she hardly noticed. The second time she cried.....now she just gets hysterical. Justin and I both had to hold her down while the nurse stuck 6 needles, one after the other, into her upper thighs! After each needle the cry was just more and more intense. 6 Daffy Duck bandaids later and we were finally finished! I felt SO sorry for her. I hate having to see her so upset. Even after we left and were walking down the hall she was still upset about it all. We got into the van, where she cried and cried when we put her back into her carseat which she had been so excited to get out of just an hour earlier, and we headed home!

Whew! I'm glad that's all over. I was nervous this morning, upset to my stomach even, just thinking about all that she was about to go through! Now it's over. She doesn't have to go back for 6 months, and she's down for her nap sleeping peacefully right now! She seems to be feeling fine despite all of the shots; no fever, and she was playing and laughing before lunch!

I still just can't believe the wonderful blessing that God has given us, in Haylie! She is so sweet, so adorable, and we just love her so so much! I just want to give God the thanks He deserves for giving us such a healthy, beautiful little girl!

Oh!!! And she's started walking!!!!!! Yesterday afternoon she just kept walking back and forth between me and Justin! She's not just taking a step here and there, she's actually walking all by herself! It will still be a few days before she's completely steady on her feet, but she's definitely on the way! I just thought she kept me busy before.....I don't even know what's about to come! :)
