Inherently Sinful

Well...we all know that we are born sinful, right? We are just naturally mean, selfish, and just plain sinful. Yesterday, Haylie, who's not even 11 months old yet, demonstrated this perfectly!!

It was almost naptime, and yes, she was very tired and cranky, but here goes the story. I wanted to get some laundry out of the dryer before going to put Haylie down for her afternoon nap. She was playing with some paper she had found, and I was letting her. Just trying to make sure that she didn't decide to eat it (she does quite often!). After the laundry was out of the dryer, folded, and put away, it was time for her to go for a nap. I picked her up, and took the paper out of her hands which immediately through her into a full blown temper tantrum. She started kicking and hitting me while screaming and growling at the same time! I grabbed both of her hands, and gently said "No hitting!" Then, while I was holding her hands together, I guess she decided she had no other line of defense so she bent her head down and bit me!! Yes, she BIT ME!! Not just a little bite, this was clamping down her teeth onto my hand, shaking her head, and growling all at the same time. She was so red in the face...I just couldn't believe it. I took her to her room and gave her her bottle which, in turn, calmed her down. I said to her, "I can't believe you just did that!!" After drinking her bottle and calming down she went right to sleep and once again looked like that sweet little innocent girl she usually is.

Later that evening Justin and I were joking about this story when he said "She's sinful, we need to pray for her soul!" We were teasing since we know she is too young to understand what she did or why she did it, but we really must pray for her soul. Because, she (even though she's not even 11 months old) is a sinner like the rest of us. We ALL need God's forgiveness and love.

This whole story illustrates perfectly how humans are just naturally sinful. We want what's best for us. We are selfish. Without the love of God and His Spirit guiding us we will continue to be sinful. We must walk in the Spirit to be able to walk in love. Daily, we must make the decision, to follow His leading, His guiding, His will.

  2. That's a great story; Thanks! I'm already praying for the day Haylie will come to faith in Christ and for the day (way down the road) where she will meet the man God is even now preparing for her! Praying for all of you, Bro Tim
